You are being asked to participate in a research study concerning perceptions of athletes. Participation in this research is restricted to persons 18 years of age or older. Completing the survey should take about 20 minutes. Your participation is voluntary, you may skip questions you do not want to answer, and you may stop at any time without any penalty to you.  Any risks involved in the study are no greater than those experienced in everyday life, although some people might be uncomfortable answering questions about gender roles. The survey does not request information that would explicitly identify you. Additionally, IP addresses will not be collected. If you inadvertently include identifying information, such information will be removed from stored data.  The responses are being collected with software that is designed to secure the data and provide the participants with confidentiality. Nevertheless, despite these safeguards, there is always a remote possibility of hacking or other security breaches that could compromise the confidentiality of the information you provide. For that reason, we encourage you to be sure that you complete this study from a computer with updated virus protection.  IP addresses will not be investigated and data will be removed from the server. Also, you should remember that you are free to skip any question that makes you uncomfortable for any reason. Only the researcher and research assistants will have access to individual responses. Results of the survey will only be presented publicly as aggregate summaries. If you would like to receive a report of the general results of this project please click on the link at the end of the survey which will take you to a separate form to send us your contact information. The research survey and the contact survey are not linked. The potential benefits to you as a participant may include increased awareness of important social issues.
